Those interested in having a project funded with Southtown TIF District money can apply for consideration. First District Peoria City Councilman Clyde Gulley used Carver Community Center to host a town hall meeting to explain details of the application process. The roof of the Center was repaired with about 150-thousand dollars in TIF money. Norm Lippett is the chair of the George Washington Carver Center Association. He says with the immediate need of the roof repaired they are completing an engineering assessment before submitting the application. “So that way when we do put forward our ask we will feel comfortable that its covering our needs,” Lippett says. The Crittenton Centers is also applying to secure $680,000 of the funding in hopes to match it with another state grant for a more than 2 million dollar renovation and expansion. The application deadline for Southtown TIF funding consideration is August 24th. The applications can be found on the city’s website under Southtown Funding Application.
