The Peoria County Board will consider raising the fee that funds the day-care space at the Peoria County Courthouse. The area allows parents to leave their children while they appear for court business. The day care costs about $85,000 to run annually, but the current fee structure only brings in about half that. Court Administrator John Flynn says raising the fee on civil filings from five to eight dollars is needed to have the day-care break even: “This will pay the cost of the contract with Rogy’s Learning Center to operate the facility, providing the staff with liability insurance for all the hours that the courthouse is open and courts are in session,” Flynn says.
Flynn says the daycare area sees about 1,200 children each year. He says the new fee structure would take effect in 2013 if approved. The County Board takes up the issue at its August 9th meeting.
