IDES Pekin office to close

The Illinois Department of Employment Security Office will no longer have an office in Pekin. The IDES is relocating its Pekin site to Peoria as of August 2nd. Spokesman Greg Rivara says the move is NOT tied to the state budget. Rather he says there were service-related issues with the landlord of the IDES office. Rivara says the new location is accessible via public transportation. He says residents are also encouraged to use the department’s website for various issues. The site allows people to apply and certify unemployment insurance benefits and determine how they receive those benefits. The 10 employees working at the IDES Pekin site will be transferred to Peoria and there will be no service cuts. The new location is at 406 Elm Street.
