Libertarian candidate defends ballot position

The Libertarian candidate for the 92nd District state representative seat is trying to stay on the November ballot. Student reporter Heather Swick has the story.

Chad Grimm says the technicality that could disqualify him is not valid. Incumbent representative Jehan Gordon-Booth’s campaign is challenging Grimm’s petitions because some of the people who passed the signature sheets also passed petitions for Democratic Senator David Koehler in the primary election. Libertarian Candidate Chad Grimm says that’s an apples to oranges comparison.

"The way that the law, as I understand it, speaks about circulating within a primary election," Grimm says.

"The difference is that they didn't circulate for me to be in any primary election, they circulated for me to be in the general election."

Grimm is Gordon-Booth’s only competitor for the position. The Peoria County Electorial Board is reviewing the matter and another hearing on the subject is scheduled for July 24th.
