The Springdale Cemetery Management Authority approved the addition of an Islamic section at the historic burial ground. The authority voted to allow the chairman to finalize details with the Islamic Center of Peoria. Treasurer Bob Manning says the new burial section will add to already existing Islamic burial spaces at Springdale: “As far as the cemetery what we’ve done is we’re maintaining clientele that are already being buried in the cemetery that we’re not going to lose them outside of the cemetery but we’re going to continue them in perpetuity,” Manning says.
Springdale Cemetery will receive $50,000 from the Islamic Center as part of the land deal. The new Islamic burial site will hold 650 plots. Manning says they hope to have the deal finalized by mid-July. |
