Prayer rally focuses on reducing drug, lethal violence

Community leaders and pastors held a “Prayer to End Violence” at the Peoria County Courthouse.  The Peoria Citizens Committee for Economic Opportunity organized the event.  McFarland Bragg is with the PCCEO.  He says he hopes the event raises awareness about violence in the community:

“Young people are dying, if it’s not to guns, we’ve got people who just passed from heroin overdose, young people,” Bragg says.
“So we’re trying to say that we’ve got to do something to save the best and brightest among us because these are the people that are going to turn our country around.”

Bragg says the goal is to have individuals reach out and encourage struggling youth in the community.  Congressman Aaron Schock and Gospel recording artist Marvin Sapp also spoke at the event.
