It’s possible, but not probable, for the historic Pere Marquette Hotel renovation project to re-open March 1st. That’s the message from E.M. Properties developer Gary Matthews. He says demolition on the $93 million project is taking longer than planned: “And especially when you think about the monumental issues of taking all that stuff down,” Matthews says.
“CORE could not use the drop chutes from the 12th floor but I guess they think they can do it on the sixth floor. That means manually everything comes out of there off of elevators. Maybe we underestimated that issue. Demolition is a massive issue in this hotel.”
Matthews says re-routing plumbing and electrical systems is also adding time to the completion date. But Matthews has a contract with the City of Peoria for roughly one third of the project that bond funded. It calls for the developer to pay the city $41,000 per month in penalties until the facility is operational.
