Local teachers to be recognized

Two Peoria area teachers are being recognized for their work with students. The Illinois State Board of Education, Education Association, and Federation of Teachers are honoring 29 educators for outstanding achievement in a variety of subject areas. Tina Johnson of Woodrow Wilson Primary School in Peoria is receiving a mathematics teaching award, and Bethanie Whittaker of Pekin Community High School is being named the Clarissa Hug Teacher of the year. The awards luncheon is Thursday in Springfield.
