Governor Pat Quinn was in Peoria for a Flag Day event outside the County Courthouse. He proclaimed Flag Day as Larry ‘The Flagman’ Eckhardt Day. The Little York resident travels across the state placing flags for fallen soldiers along funeral processions. Eckhardt thanked his more than 10-thousand volunteers for helping place the flags: “During the past six years I’ve worked with everything from 86,90 year-old people down to four and five year-old kids,” Eckhardt says. “There is no way that I could do this by myself.”
Quinn also highlighted recently-passed legislation that gives a tax credit to companies that hire veterans. The City of Peoria is also holding its annual Flag Day program Thursday at Constitution Garden. |
