More than 20 local kids took part in an event to set the record for the World’s Largest Swim Lesson. The children went over various swimming techniques like free-style and proper entry of the pool at Gwynn Family Aquatic Center.
Jake Noll is the Assistant Manager of Aquatics for the Peoria Park District. Noll says the current world record for a simultaneous swim lesson is 20-thousand kids.
"Last year the did it and they had about 200 facilities, and I am not sure on the exact number, but there are a lot more facilities signed up. And hopefully we'll break it," Nolls says.
Nolls says pools all over the world are taking part in the event. He says the importance of the swim lesson goes beyond setting a record. He says swim lessons are vital to prevent drowning. Noll says drowning is one of the leading causes of death among children under the age of 14. |
