A fiber optic connection could be installed this summer linking Peoria City Hall to the County Courthouse. Peoria Public Radio’s Alex Rusciano reports:
pre-wrap">Connection with a fiber optic cable is the latest city/county initiative recommended by the Metro Peoria Committee. Peoria City Manager Patrick Urich says a direct link between both entities would help the city access Geographic Information systems:
“The city is the largest user of the County’s GIS system,” Urich says. “So therefore, if we have direct access into the GIS system, it will speed up our ability to utilize that, it will make a faster connection and we’ll be able to access the data a lot faster.” Urich says the fiber connection will also allow city police officers to automatically send ticket information into the Circuit Clerk’s office instead of manually entering in the citation. The fiber connection was one area initially recommended by the citizen advisory group PASS Forward. The City and County will consider the $23,000 project at their next full meetings. |
