Mercy for Animals brought its national tour to Peoria City Hall. The group is traveling the country protesting the living conditions of factory farm animals. Members of ‘Mercy For Animals’ displayed a 10-foot inflatable puppy on a sandwich bun to highlight why some animals are considered pets and others are grown for food. Phil Letten is with Mercy For Animals. He says the display aims to raise awareness about the treatment of cows, pigs and chickens: “All animals suffer pain and experience pleasure in the same way, and are deserving of the same consideration and respect,” Letten says. “On factory farms, animals are forced to spend nearly their entire lives crammed inside these tiny crates that are barely larger than their own bodies, they are subjected to extreme confinement, painful mutilations without any painkillers, abusive handling and a brutal slaughter,”
The campaign includes billboards. The national protest tour is traveling to Springfield next. Letten says switching to a vegetarian diet is the most important thing people can do to prevent animal abuse. |
