West Nile makes way to Peoria County

Warnings of the West Nile Virus are now local. The Peoria City/County Health Department recently tested a batch of mosquitoes for the disease and the results were positive. West Nile Virus is transmitted through the bite of a mosquito that has picked up the virus by feeding on an infected bird. Symptoms include fever, nausea, headache, and muscle aches. The health department is urging residents to follow the three “R’s” to prevent contracting the virus. They include reducing exposure to mosquitoes, repelling the insects by wearing bug-spray, and reporting areas where mosquitoes typically breed.
