Area protesters oppose new heath care regulations

Hundreds of people gathered in downtown Peoria to oppose new federal healthcare requirements.  The new regulations will require Church-related institutions to provide contraceptive coverage for employees in their health care plans.  Mark Lang is with Central Illinois Right to Life that organized the protest.  He says the new requirements force religious groups to choose between their beliefs and the law:

“Because it’s going against what we believe is in the Bible,” Lang says.

“So once you cross that boundary you go against not only what we believe in the Bible but it also goes against the Constitution because you’re taking away the First Amendment right.”
Lang says the rally was also held to draw attention to the Supreme Court’s decision on the federal health care reform law.  A ruling is expected sometime this month.
