Scenic byway program highlights new kiosks

Six new kiosks line the way in communities along the Illinois River Road National Scenic Byway.

The four-sided kiosks were built in Ottawa, Princeton, Peoria, Pekin, Canton and Havana.  Anaise Berry directs the byway program.  She says visitors are able to capture the the significance of the area at the new kiosks. “There’s a panel that gives them a map, lets them know about over 100 nature sites they can visit, and then there’s a panel unique to each community that gives the visitor a little more information about what they can experience in the community,” Berry says.

“We want visitors to walk away from those kiosks with the sense that where they’re visiting is part of a much larger experience that they can continue to explore.”

Berry says the kiosks took about four years to design and construct.
