The Peoria Riverfront Museum is nearly complete with about 150 days from opening. Media got a sneak peek at what the facility will offer. That includes the new power dome digital planetarium, exhibit galleries, and the giant screen digital theater featuring a 52-by-70 foot screen. The Illinois River will also be a major theme throughout the 86-thousand square foot facility.

Jim Richerson is the President and CEO of the museum. He says the multi-disciplinary project positions Peoria to be a unique tourist destination.

"There's nothing cookie-cutter about this. It's all unique, the architecture, the connections with the river, all the themes inside, you know, both in shape and content, it's a statement about a community that can get something done," says Richerson.

He says having the Caterpillar Visitors Center in combination with the museum is also a unique concept. At least 300 people have worked on the construction of the museum. 80% of full-time staff have already been hired.  The museum is scheduled to be open October 20th.
