The Peoria City Council voted to partner with the Illinois Department of Transportation on a North Peoria road project. City manager Patrick Urich says the unanimous vote supports the city’s share of the $20 million project on Allen Road:
“To make improvements on Allen Road north of the Rock Island trail, through the Allen/Alta Road intersection and north towards just south of the entrance of Northwoods Community Church, midway between Alta Road and Wilhelm Road. That will be the scope of the project,” Urich says.
The council postponed deciding how to pay for its about $6.5 million piece of the project. It also delayed a decision on whether the Allen/Alta intersection should have a roundabout as part of the improvements. IDOT is holding a public hearing on the project next Tuesday at Northwoods Community Church. In other business the council voted to allow video gambling within city limits. The council also voted to create a new downtown Peoria Advisory Commission to discuss ways to improve that area. |
