The Illinois Comptroller’s Office is making sure local government bodies have the tools needed to correctly file financial reports and audits with the state. Area leaders and accounting professionals took part in a Local Government Training Workshop at Illinois Central College in East Peoria. The seminar focused on educating public bodies how to properly fill out financial reports and file them online.
Dan Mumpher is the Director of Local Government for the Comptroller’s Office. He says the workshop is about encouraging efficiency, transparency, and accountability.
"On the efficiency side, it's trying to assist people (to) file the report online and timely. On transparency, it's all about providing that information to the taxpayers and constituents within those districts of government. And on the accountability side, folks have a right to know how their government is spending their resources, and that's providing those online on our website," says Mumpher.
Mumpher says 90% of government bodies across the state file financial reports electronically. He says the goal is for 100% of public entities to transition to online filing. |
