Twelve people appointed by the President of the United States serve on the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board. Doctor Christie Gilson is a central Illinois native who was appointed to the board earlier this year. Gilson, who is blind, is an Illinois State University graduate and holds an M.S.W. and P.H.D from the University of Illinois Urbana/Champaign. Gilson won a Fulbright Fellowship in 2006. She studied access to higher education for students with disabilities in Hong Kong. She teaches in the Department of education at Moravian College in Pennsylvania, and also teaches English to blind adults in China using Voice over I.P.
