Opt-out letters headed out

Homes throughout the region are receiving the so called opt-out letters from Homefield Energy. That’s the Ameren energy supply company that won the bid for the more than 40-thousand residents and small businesses in the central Illinois municipal energy aggregation buying group.

People who wish to remain in the program for the next two years take no action to pay the reduced power rate. Those wanting to exit the program must complete a brief form included with the letter and return it.

Peoria City officials estimate those who remain in the program should begin seeing savings in July or August. People with all-electric homes are not included in the program, and will not receive opt-out letters. People who’ve already enrolled with Ameren's "Power Smart Pricing" or signed a contract with an alternative electricity supplier like Direct Energy are also not included. An opt-in program is being created for these households and will be released soon.
