Outreach Activities Students as Announcers and Operators: There are additional opportunities to gain experience as producers and editors working on sustaining program series and special projects . Internships and Student Employment WCBU News: Bradley University students gain experience in the broadcasting field working as writers and reporters in the News Department under the supervision of the news staff. This program is designed to supplement the learning experience and better prepare students for careers in media both in paid and unpaid capacities. RIS Volunteers: Volunteers support the WCBU Radio Information Service, reading local publications for the blind and print handicapped. Using special receivers, listeners can hear local and national publications 24 hours a day. Outreach Activities: August and January: WCBU participates in employment fairs at Bradley University twice each year, and actively recruits among the student body through the Bradley University’s Department of Communications in the Slane College of Communications and Fine Arts. WCBU also participates in the District 150 Adopt-A-School program providing experiences for elementary and middle school age students. Staff members speak at local service clubs about broadcasting and opportunities in media. There are additional opportunities to gain experience as producers and editors working on sustaining program series and special projects. Students work under the supervision of the Operations Manager and Program Director.
