Women's Lifestyle Show campaigning Ellen DeGeneres to come to Peoria

Driving a Caterpillar bulldozer and making custom Maui Jim sunglasses are just two of the perks being offered to lure Ellen DeGeneres to Peoria. Organizers of the Women’s Lifestyle Show are hoping to bring the talk show host to town for the October exhibition as they work to raise 100-thousand dollars for Susan G. Komen for the Cure. The breast cancer awareness organization is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. Gina Morss is the Development Director for the Race for the Cure Memorial affiliate.

"Imagine raising 100-thousand dollars. That's phenomenal, and the good that we can do with that through mammography, through other health care screenings and raising general breast health awareness is critical to saving lives. Breast cancer when caught in its earliest stages is 98-percent curable, and that's what we have to focus on because that means we're going to save lives, and eventually we'll get closer to that cure," say Morss.

Organizers of the Lifestyle show recently sent a video to Ellen’s show promoting the area and Race for the Cure. The talk show host’s staff has indicated they will make a decision soon on whether Ellen will come to town. In the meantime, Lifestyle show promoters are asking people to send postcards and messages via email, Twitter and Facebook to the Ellen show. Addressed and stamped postcards are at all area Kroger stores, PNC Banks, Essential Wellness and the Komen-Race for the Cure affiliate. The Campaign Ellen video is also available on YouTube.
