Travelling with winter

The Illinois State Police, I-DOT and city and county leaders are encouraging people to travel slowly and carefully to make it safely through the winter conditions.  The Central Illinois area is predicted for two to four inches between this evening and later tonight.  Illinois State Police District 8 Trooper Dustin Pierce says as the temperature drops this evening and the wind continues, the roads will get slicker. He says I-DOT vehicles have been pre-treating roads. But motorist still need to be paying attention.
“With the blowing its going to cause some other problems. Motorist may be driving along and the pavement is dry and clear and then all of sudden boom, there’s ice or snow and it’s too late for them. When they lock up their breaks they end up in a ditch or in a crash,” Pierce says. “So even if the roads look like they are dry, people still need to slow down and use caution.”
Trooper Pierce says bridges, over-passes and ramps are particularly troubling in the snow, wind and icy conditions.
