The Peoria region unemployment rate increased slightly in December compared to the month before.  The Illinois Department of Employment Security says the rate last month was 8.1 percent compared to 7.9 percent in November.  The jobless rate is down more than half-a-percent from December 2010.  8,600 more people are also working compared to a year ago.  The highest gains were in manufacturing and professional business services.
