The Catholic Diocese of Peoria has filed a federal lawsuit against the White House over a new health care mandate. The mandate will require Church-related institutions to provide contraceptive coverage for employees in their health care plans. The Peoria Diocese says the requirement from the Obama Administration attacks the Church’s freedom to practice religion. Patricia Gibson is the attorney for the Peoria Diocese. She says the suit is not about access to services but whether the government can force religious institutions to fund services that violate their beliefs. A similar lawsuit was filed earlier this year by the Dioceses of Springfield and Joliet. The Peoria Dioceses was not available for comment. |
