The City and County of Peoria collaborated on multiple projects this year. Peoria Public Radio’s Alex Rusciano reports more efforts are planned in the new year: The City and County already have agreements for the County to take over city bridge inspections, and for the City to allow County vehicles to refuel at its E-85 pump. Earlier this year both groups agreed to install a fiber optic cable between City Hall and the County Courthouse, and launched a joint website called Metro-Peoria-Gov-dot-com. The County also approved a formal intergovernmental relations committee starting in January. Peoria City Manager Patrick Urich says that’s an important step in collaborating:
“The County Board is serious about this, the city’s participation, we’re very serious about this. And we’re going to try and continue to work as hard and as diligent as we can over the next year, do to things like tax liens, where we can try and improve our neighborhoods in the city and county and continue to partner with one another,” Urich says.
The City of Peoria is also aiming to create an intergovernmental agreement with the County to help manage property code violations. Other possible partnerships in 2013 include supply-sharing agreements, and the County Sheriff’s Office and Peoria Police Department continue to look for ways to combine their two agencies. |
