Peoria City corrects garbage bill due date

Peoria residents began receiving garbage bills Thursday.  This bill covers the cost of household garbage collection and is titled ‘refuse collection’.
But city officials say there was a printing error on the bill.  The due date is listed as December 21, 2012. But the actual due date is ten days later on December 31.  The “delinquent date” is also ten days later than listed and is actually January 10, 2013.
Illinois American Water stopped billing for the $13/month garbage fee at the end of October. Peoria is using a Decatur service to print and mail the stand alone bill.
December garbage bills cover November and a pro-rated amount for the portion of October not covered in the transition. Starting in January, all bills will be for 13-dollars.
Mail and in-person payment options are in place.  Automatic payment is expected to be available in January or February.
