Goodwill of Central Illinois is refurbishing its old facility on War Memorial to house programs that will help veterans and high school students in 21 counties. Goodwill President Patty Fuchs says the building will be called Goodwill Commons and will offer job training for past service members: “Having the room to bring more veterans in and having a center that even a new veteran that has recently come back from one of the war areas, for them to just come in and ask a couple of questions, who do I go to for this or that,” Fuchs says.
Goodwill is also offering classes with Illinois Central College to help struggling high school students make the transition to higher education. The $4 million dollar project includes a new roof, windows, and insulation. Fuchs says Goodwill Commons is expected to be completed next spring. |
