ELITE continues for District 150 Trewyn School

The District 150 School Board approved a contract for the ELITE program to return to Trewyn Middle School. Peoria Public Radio’s Alex Rusciano reports the behavior program won’t be expanding into additional buildings this fall.

The one year contract with ELITE founder Carl Cannon is for $80,000.  The district pays over $300,000 per year to run the ELITE program at Trewyn Middle School.  School Board Member Debbie Wolfmeyer says she supports paying for the program:
“I’m sorry to say it, but we had some real problems at Trewyn before last year,” Wolfmeyer says.
“Some very very major major problems, and if it took an extra $300,000 a year for three years to turn that school around I think that’s money well spent.”
The District was looking to expand the ELITE program into Harrison Community Learning Center. But questions remain if Cannon or the Park District has the final-say to expand the program into other schools.  In other business the School Board approved appointing more than 80 new and pink-slipped teachers and recalling more than 50 tutors and support staff for the upcoming school year.  Administration is also working to include more information in online board agendas.
