Officials with Quest Charter Academy say it’s taking too long to bus its students to school. Members of the Peoria Charter School Initiative discussed the issue last week. Initiative member Al Hooks says the average ride time for a student is an hour and fifteen minutes. He says the school is identifying students on the fringes of bus routes that could be adding time:
HOOKS: And another is as you look at specific areas, if a bus is going through a subdivision for five, six, or seven minutes, is there a better approach. Maybe a location within that subdivision that really affords a better time but also doesn’t burn the parents or the student. So that’s what we’re evaluating.
Hooks says the goal is to get the average ride-time under one hour. He says the school hopes to start making any needed changes to the bus route system in February. Hooks says the school could also consider adding a fifth bus to its fleet. He says the school is also working on more detailed bus forms that list bus-stop locations, a student’s name and address. |
