Caterpillar says it’s laying off nearly 170 workers as its Engine Center in Lafayette, Indiana.  The company says the cuts are set to begin in September and is the result of changes in business demand.  Cat says this is about six-percent of the workforce at the Indiana plant.  The move comes as the company recently announced its best second quarter profit on record and as hundreds of Cat workers remain on strike in Joliet.
