Area businesses are contributing to the Don’t Shoot project. The program is based on the book by David Kennedy and addresses ways law enforcement and the community can reduce violent crime. Peoria County State’s Attorney Jerry Brady says Caterpillar is matching up to $10,000 from community giving to the project: “There’s expense involved in terms of the advertising, in terms of billboards, in terms of production of the brochures, the wristbands,” Brady says.
“And so as a result of that we’re reaching out to the community for not only awareness but also support.”
Brady says OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, Methodist Medical Center and Illinois American Water are among the companies supporting the anti-violence effort. WCBU is also hosting a four-part roundtable during the month on the book and community initiative Thursdays at 1:00. The shows re-air Sundays at 3:00. The roundtable series is also available at wcbufm.org. |
