Weather conditions should begin to get a bit better as the day goes on, but residents in and around southern Illinois will likely see snow on the ground for the next several days, after a powerful winter storm makes its way east. The National Weather Service in Paducah Kentucky issued a Blizzard Warning as the storm blew through. It's the first time such an advisory has been posted for the region.
Lead Forecaster Dan Spaeth says eight-to-ten inches of snow is already on the ground, with another inch or so possible today.
"With that volume of snow in your area, that's not going to go away right away. We are expecting more snow - nothing to even begin to compare to what we've just had here over the last several hours - but another inch or so of snow is not out of the question this Friday."
Spaeth says travel will be difficult, if not impossible, for the rest of today as the system moves off to the east... with high winds and blowing and drifting snow, coupled with roads which are completely snow and ice covered.
