Area high school students create artwork for PIA

Students from area high schools now have their artwork on display at the Peoria International Airport. Airport staff launched the School Art Project last year and encouraged Peoria County schools to come up with pieces of art inspired by aviation. 10 schools participated and had four months to complete their projects.

The finished works include paintings of futuristic airplanes, a collage of airplane photographs shot at the terminal, and a military-themed piece. Manual High School’s art club contributed one of the pieces. Student Kamiya Hayden is with the group and says she’s honored to have the club’s artwork displayed in the airport.

"We can show the world what Manual has to offer, and I just liked the experience. It makes me feel good," says Hayden.

Airport officials say the artwork will be permanently displayed in various places around the terminal building. Other schools that participated in the project include Peoria Notre Dame, Dunlap, Richwoods, and Peoria High Schools.
