The Archer Daniels Midland plant in Peoria appears to have escaped a majority of the cuts made across the company. ADM announced in January it was eliminating 1000 jobs from its salaried workforce to streamline its business and improve productivity. The company offered a voluntary early retirement incentive to certain employees as part of the announcement. ADM Tuesday said two Peoria employees accepted the early retirement option, and seven positions were eliminated. That represents less than three-percent of the Peoria workforce according to an ADM statement. The company’s facility in Decatur is bearing the brunt of global cuts losing a total of 335 jobs. More than half of those were layoffs. Company officials plan to meet this week with those who’ve lost their jobs. ADM plans to offer severance packages and career and life-transition counseling seminars to impacted employees. |
