Adler running for city council as write-in candidate

There will be a February primary race for the 5th District Peoria City Council seat.  Dan Adler says he plans to run for the post as a write-in candidate.  The move comes a week after the Peoria City Election Commission removed Adler from the ballot during a hearing challenging his petition for not being notarized.  Adler says running as a write-in candidate will be more difficult because people have to physically list him on the ballot:

“I’m not just a choice, I need to be a pretty proactive selection,” Adler says.

“So that means I need to get out to people at their doorsteps and any audiences that i can get in order to ensure that they know that they want to select me as their candidate.”

There are now three candidates for the fifth district city council seat, including incumbent Dan Irving and challenger Casey Johnson. The deadline to file as a write-in candidate is December 27th. Patti Smith, who initially filed to run for the 5th District seat, has withdrawn her name. City officials say a primary election costs more than $20,000.
